A haircut, a reset, and a quiet celebration of wellbeing
September is Self-Care September, thanks to the wonderful Action for Happiness Org and their calendar. A month that invites us to pause, nurture ourselves, and make space for what helps us thrive.
My latest haircut turned out to be more than just a trim; it became a quiet reminder of how far I’ve come on my own wellbeing journey.
There’s something so refreshing about a good haircut, especially when it marks the end of one chapter and the start of another.
Today, Sarah, my hairdresser, gave my hair the cut it truly needed. The longer ends – the ones that had travelled with me through medical procedures, treatments, and all the ups and downs in my personal and professional life, were gently trimmed away.

What’s left is stronger, thicker, and full of new growth, even carrying a hint of my old copper-chestnut colour. Around my neckline, soft tendrils are coming back, little signs of resilience.
Hair might seem like just hair, yet it can hold the story of what our body has been through. Letting go of those worn strands felt like releasing some of the weight of the past, making space for recovery and vitality.
Wellbeing often hides in these small, everyday moments. A haircut can remind us to pause, notice how far we’ve come, and welcome the healthy chapters waiting ahead.
🌱 Gentle Rituals to Celebrate Healing
Mark milestones with kindness: Choose a simple ritual. A haircut, a nature walk, a new journal – whenever you finish a treatment or reach a step in recovery.
Keep a “growth log”: Jot down little signs of progress (like stronger hair, improved energy, or a new skill). Tiny shifts often hold the biggest hope.
Honour your body’s resilience: Give yourself credit for the strength it takes to heal. Acknowledge every tender sprout of wellbeing.
Stay connected: Share these wins with supportive friends, family, or communities – letting others celebrate with you builds motivation and joy.
As Self-Care September reminds us, tending to our wellbeing doesn’t always require grand gestures. Sometimes it’s as simple as releasing what no longer serves us and celebrating the healthy growth that’s quietly returning. Whether it’s a haircut, a stretch in the sun, or a mindful breath, every act of self-care helps us step with more hope into the chapters ahead. 💇♀️💜💚❤️
