Just like in the song ‘I am What I Am’, I love marching to the beat of my own drum, & being who I am.
Whenever I hear this version, I can’t help but have a huge grin appear on my face, and dance about the place.
It took a long time, but 2020 & my COVID Lockdown buddy helped me to rediscover who I am. I had for many years forgotten the fun loving former British military spouse part of me, but they helped to bring that side out from the shadows.
About 20 months ago, & again only 4-6 months ago, two pretty amazing people who came into my life, reminded me of who I am, & accepted me for my;
* serious professional side
* kooky fun loving ‘gnome’ side
* passion for helping others with their career transitions side
* adventurous side, to name a few.
They both could see that events over the last few years had dented my confidence, & made me promise to not let others change who I am, & continue being my authentic self.

I’m also fortunate that the culture of the team I work with embraces all of who I am, even the goofy side (at appropriate times of course). Work life whether in the office or remotely, would be pretty tedious if you can’t have some light-hearted moments.
I’m making it my mission for 2021 to embrace who & what I am, living my life authentically. I’m also focusing on my health, wellbeing and happiness in 2021.

2020 helped me to realise, that far too often I have been the person that reaches out to others, looking out for their needs and wellbeing whilst not thinking of myself. I’m tired of doing this, which partly resulted in becoming completely run down, exhausted and my immune system weakened by the end of last year. This is something I need to be mindful of throughout 2021 and beyond. Hey if people want to get and/or keep in touch, that’s great, but I’m not not going to be putting my life on hold waiting for them to make contact, or only available at times when it suits them.
Who wants to join me in making it their mission this year to embrace ‘who they are’?
