Yesterday I had a great end of the year/Christmas get together with my new team, It ended up lasting 10 hours including catching up with one of my very good friends (who has been helping me understand German culture).
The catch up was a great little bar with balcony. I love the many hidden entrances to places in Melbourne’s laneways

Driving to Sydney
๐ Thank You #SES, you helped save my life today ๐
Shout out to Victoria State Emergency Service thank you for providing a great service!
I stopped to have one of a couple of breaks on my way driving north to Sydney.

Lovely volunteers at the manned rest stop between #Euroa and #Benella, who no doubt have their own things to do in the lead up to Christmas, but have set time aside to help people they don’t know travel safely ๐๐
Lovely cup of tea and sausage sandwich
And this is why you need to take regular breaks when driving long distances.
6 hours into my drive, I almost got side swiped by a big old truck. Thankfully we were only going 60kms per hour on the highway instead of 110kms per hour. I managed to swerve onto the soft shoulder and just missed crashing into a tree. Any faster, and it would have been all over red rover for me.
If I hadn’t of been taking regular breaks, I know my reflex response time and awareness of my surroundings possibly would not have been so quick
Fortunately I was heading to the next rest stop only 500 metres from where I was almost hit…. perfect for me to pull into the rest stop, and take time to calm down and regain my composure
532 kms and 7 hours in total, I’ve made it to my overnight stop.
Only 358kms to drive tomorrow
Please take care when travelling, particularly over the holiday season.

โ Stop, Revive, Survive โ
Wishing you a safe and happy holiday season
