Lest We Forget

11.11.11

Remembrance Day

I will be stopping at 11:00hrs for the one-minute silence, which will also be live streamed from the Shrine of Remembrance

Where your Poppy with pride. It doesn’t matter how you wear it…. 2 years ago I found myself in a surreal position of stopping to honour Remembrance Day with a minutes silence, in Köln Germany, and exactly 11 minutes later celebrating Karneval (their 5th season) commencing, where there was much dancing, singing and a whole lot else throughout the day and evening.

It is definetely one Remembrance Day I’ll never forget, dressed for Karneval with my traffic cone hat whilst wearing my poppy with pride …. the blending together of 2 cultures, getting to know each other’s cultures more deeply with greater appreciation and mutual respect🇦🇺 🇩🇪 🇬🇧

People have been stopping me today and asking what’s the rosemary for and why I’m wearing it with my poppy pointing to the “11 o’clock” position……

Rosemary is symbolic of remembrance, and pointing to the 11 o’clock position is symbolic of the end of World War I by the signing of the Armistace at 11am on the 11th November 1918

With the world currently in so much unrest and turmoil, I personally feel it is important to pause, reflect and remember those who have served, or are currently serving in different country’s military around the world, who have or are prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, democracy and safety against aggression, oppression and tyranny

Thank you to all who have served and continue to serve 🙏 🌏 🙏

The Ode:
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them

Lest we forget …
